Overview Security Patrol Officer (5326C), University Police - 75494 Join to apply for the Security Patrol Officer role at Inside Higher Ed. This position is with the University of California, Berkeley, and supports campus safety across the University Police Department. Position Summary Security Patrol Officers (SPO) are full-time, non-sworn career employees who provide high-profile, uniformed public safety services on campus and other University-owned sites. SPOs perform premise security, preventive patrols in vehicles, on bicycles, and on foot, and support the University Police Department with various tasks. Responsibilities Handle routine and emergency calls for service and respond to alarms as needed. Work at strategic stationary posts to control access and assist the public with safety services. Ensure safety of persons and property at campus events; assist with transportation, booking, and searching of prisoners when required. Prepare written reports and issue citations as necessary. Report security violations or hazards and take action to correct issues or ensure correction. Work shifts including nights, weekends, and special events. Required Qualifications Excellent communication skills and good judgement under pressure. High school diploma and/or equivalent certification/experience/training. Applicants may be required to show legal right to work permanently in the United States. Must be 18 years of age at time of appointment. Salary & Benefits The budgeted hourly range is $28.34 (Step 14) – $31.91 (Step 20). A $3,000 hiring bonus is included within compensation.
