Job Description

Overview Combatting Immune Disease Through Data Analysis! Join our team to help fight immune diseases. We seek individuals to apply cutting edge statistical approaches to study the human immune system. We believe that understanding how the immune system functions in health and in diseases like cancer and autoimmunity will lead to better patient care. We are looking for highly motivated and creative individuals who enjoy working in a multidisciplinary, team-oriented environment to use statistical and computational approaches to discover new mechanisms, biomarkers, and therapies for immune-mediated diseases. The biostatistician will integrate with two teams: our Center for Systems Immunology and the Center for Interventional Immunology to help design and analyze data from clinical research studies. Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason (BRI) is an internationally recognized medical research institute committed to finding a cure for autoimmune and immune-mediated diseases, through a combination of basic and translational research programs. This means you can contribute to scientific advances that have a direct impact on people with these diseases, including type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, allergies, and asthma. Submission of a cover letter is highly encouraged for this application. Responsibilities Apply biostatistics and statistics to the design, execution, analysis, and interpretation of clinical research results and associated mechanistic studies. Add statistical rigor to all phases of the experimental process to support interpretation of experiments with confidence. Work at the project level from the earliest design phase, overseeing statistically oriented details of the project from beginning to end. Collaborate with investigators and researchers across the organization; manage and maintain large collections of experimental and clinical profiling data from public and internal programs. Perform biostatistical analysis working with institute scientists, including generating quality control and data output reports, visualizations, and publication-quality graphics where appropriate. Critically evaluate experimental design and generate statistical analysis plans. Design and implement new immunological experiments in collaboration with researchers. Participate in writing quarterly and progress reports, proposals, and journal articles. Keep informed of cutting-edge ideas, research, and technology, and apply them as appropriate. Educate institute scientists in biostatistics through open-door consulting and classroom sessions. Attend and present data at external scientific meetings and conferences as appropriate. Meet established deadlines and milestones; comply with health and safety procedures and practices. Perform other duties as required. Qualifications Requires a bachelor’s degree in biostatistics, healthcare statistics, or other life science with a strong understanding of biostatistics principles; 0-3 years related experience. Master’s degree preferred. Focus or strength in areas such as experimental design, analysis of clinical trials, novel modeling techniques, curation of complex datasets, data visualization, or machine learning. Demonstrates technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration, and independent thought. Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong time management and multitasking abilities. Solid understanding of biostatistics and its application to scientific questions. Proficiency with analysis software such as R/Bioconductor and SAS/JMP. BRI is a nonprofit research institute based in Seattle and affiliated with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. We collaborate with clinicians and patients to accelerate the path from innovative lab discoveries to life-changing patient care. At BRI, each individual is valued as an important contributor to our vision and mission. Consider making a difference by joining our team. Because together, we are powering possibility.
