Job Summary The Registered Nurse - Surgery (RN-Surgery):
- Provides direct and comprehensive nursing care to surgical patients within an acute care hospital setting
- Utilizing the nursing process, the RN-Surgery assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to achieve optimal outcomes
- This role supports surgical interventions across all age groups and ensures patient safety, comfort, and education throughout the perioperative process
Essential Functions - Delivers patient-centered nursing care based on established standards of care and the nursing process
- Administers medications and treatments as prescribed and in accordance with policy
- Documents all aspects of patient care clearly and accurately
- Monitors, evaluates, and communicates patient condition to healthcare team, patient, and family
- Coordinates and collaborates with surgical and interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care
- Participates in patient transfer, discharge, and referrals as needed
- Educates patients and families on surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and post-operative care
- Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients throughout the surgical experience

- Physical ability to perform required duties, including lifting, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods
- Willingness to comply with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures
- Attends required staff meetings and maintains required certifications and competencies
Qualifications Education - Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Licenses/Certifications - Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required within time frame specified in facility policy)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (required within time frame specified in facility policy)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (required within timeframe specified in facility policy)
Experience - Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience preferred
- Previous perioperative or surgical services experience strongly preferred
