Position Summary


NOTE: CHATTAHOOCHEE VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE OBSERVES EASTERN TIME.

This position involves performance duties for a federally funded project and is contingent on continued federal funding. In the event that funds for this position are discontinued or significantly reduced or if federal requirements for funding the project no longer include this position, the College shall have the right to discontinue the position. Neither tenure nor non-probationary status may be attained in this position, the funding and duration of which are finite.

The Student Navigator/Coach is responsible for guiding students through their academic journey by providing comprehensive support services that enhance student retention, progression, and success. The role involves assisting students in academic planning, navigating institutional resources, developing educational goals, and addressing potential barriers to academic achievement. The Student Navigator/Coach works closely with faculty, staff, and other departments to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
Salary: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule E4 05 ($34,298-$51,973), which is based on years of directly related full-time experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  1. Provide individualized academic advising to students, helping them develop academic plans that align with their goals and ensure timely progress toward graduation.
  2. Assist students in identifying and accessing campus resources, such as tutoring, financial aid, counseling, career services, and other support services.
  3. Collaborate with students to set achievable academic, personal, and career goals. Monitor progress and provide ongoing support and encouragement.
  4. Identify at-risk students and develop strategies to improve academic performance, including connecting them with appropriate academic support services.
  5. Develop and facilitate workshops on topics such as time management, study skills, and career exploration to enhance student success.
  6. Maintain accurate records of student interactions, advising notes, and progress toward academic goals. Use data to identify trends and inform continuous improvement efforts.
  7. Serve as a liaison between students and faculty/staff, advocating for student needs and facilitating effective communication across campus.
  8. Contribute to the development and implementation of retention strategies, including early alert systems, to identify and support students who may be at risk of not completing their program.
  9. Work closely with other departments, including Academic Affairs, Financial Aid, and Student Life, to ensure a coordinated approach to student success.
  10. Attend and support campus recruitment activities
  11. Participate in continuous professional development to stay informed about best practices in rural education and student success initiatives.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, psychology, counseling, social work, or other related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in academic advising, student services, counseling, or a related field.

The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions.
