A Registered Nurse (RN) in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) provides specialized patient care by planning, coordinating, and implementing nursing interventions for critically ill patients. This role requires flexibility, clinical expertise, and compassionate interaction with patients, families, and healthcare staff in a fast-paced hospital environment. The RN contributes to improved patient outcomes through quality care and utilizes advanced technology in a 14-bed ICU with a 2:1 patient-to-nurse ratio during 12-hour shifts.

Department/Unit Summary
The registered nurse (RN) plans, coordinates and implements patient care specific to the age of the patient population served on the Intensive Care Unit. The RN ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with departmental standards of care. The RN demonstrates performance consistent with the mission, philosophy and goals of the assigned unit and the organization. They remain flexible to changing systems - are expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practices, and treat staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect.
