Make an Impact in Healthcare! Pharmacy Support Specialists Needed (Start 11/3 or 11/17)

Title: Pharmacy Support Specialist Location: Pittsburgh, PA (Downtown area)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM during training. Limited openings (2-4) will transition to an 11:00 AM-8:00 PM schedule starting in December/January.
Start Dates: November 3 or November 17
Type: 4-Month Contract-to-Hire through Medix
Pay Rate: $22/hour (potential increase upon conversion based on performance)
Work Model: Fully In-Person

Overview:
Medix is hiring several Pharmacy Support Specialists on behalf of a growing healthcare technology organization in the Pittsburgh area. This team supports a national network of specialty pharmacies and healthcare partners, ensuring timely resolution of issues that impact patient access to medications. The ideal candidate will have pharmacy or healthcare customer service experience and an interest in learning the processes behind specialty medication claims and authorizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for pharmacy and provider partners, assisting with claim-related or referral inquiries.
  • Research and resolve common claim issues (e.g., denials, rejections, billing errors) and determine appropriate next steps.
  • Triage more complex requests to the correct internal team for resolution.
  • Monitor incoming support queues and maintain timely communication with all stakeholders.
  • Accurately document all interactions in internal systems and follow up as needed.
  • Identify patterns in customer inquiries and communicate training or process improvement opportunities to leadership.
  • Collaborate with other internal departments to ensure a seamless experience for pharmacy partners and patients.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in pharmacy billing, specialty pharmacy support, PBM, or healthcare customer service.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy claim processing or rejection codes is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical aptitude and comfort working in multiple systems simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Ideal Backgrounds Include:

  • Specialty pharmacy, PBM, or healthcare call center experience.
  • Prior roles such as Pharmacy Technician, Intake Coordinator, or Patient Care Coordinator.
  • Understanding of NCPDP claim rejections (e.g., "Refill Too Soon," "Plan Limitation Exceeded").

Additional Details:

  • This role is fully in-person at the downtown Pittsburgh office. Candidates must be comfortable working on site.
  • Parking is not included during the contract period; a nearby garage is available at approximately $10 per day . Full-time employees are eligible for parking reimbursement after conversion.
  • All hires must be available to work on New Year's Day (1/1) to support key program launches.
