Join to apply for the Outpatient Medical Coder role at Sierra7, Inc. Brief Description The Outpatient Medical Coder is responsible for remote coding of all outpatient visits and surgical procedures for the Veterans Affairs Health Care System (VAHCS). The coder will use the VA VistA/CPRS system to read and code medical records, entering ICD, CPT, HCPCS, and E&M codes into the approved encoding system. This part‑time position requires a minimum of 20 hours per week, scheduled at the coder’s discretion from Monday through Sunday. Requirements Qualified and competent coding activities, with no reimbursement for mileage, travel, meals, or parking. Compliance with all VA privacy and security requirements. Maintain a minimum of 95% on all audit scores. Ability to code all types—outpatient, inpatient, professional, and surgical—transitioning between them as needed. Formal training in anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, medical terminology, and reimbursement methodologies. Apply modifiers, CPT format guidelines, and correct coding initiative (CCI) bundling guidelines. Use CMS Common Procedural Coding Systems (CPCS) where appropriate. Code inpatient discharges when requested (e.g., quarterly census). Complete yearly VA privacy and security training. Education & Experience High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 2 years of outpatient coding experience. At least 6 months of Veterans Affairs or related coding experience, either as a VA employee or government contractor. Experience with VIRR/WebVIRR. Commitment to a minimum of 20 hours per week as required by business needs. Experience with surgery, professional fee, institutional payment, and auditing is an advantage. Certification RHIA / RHIT, CCS / CCS‑P, or Clinical Modification/Procedure Coding System Trainer. CPC / CPC‑H or CIC.
