GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under the direction of the MFM Physician, Office or Clinic Manager, or Supervisor, the Genetic Counselor will be responsible for providing quality patient care and practicing evidence-based medicine.

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

Demonstrate effective communication, listening, organization, and independence; demonstrate successful case management skills Establish and maintain effective professional relationships Demonstrate clinical knowledge and professional competency appropriate for the care specific to age, development, culture, ethnicity, language, education, socioeconomic status, and condition-specific needs of patients, maintaining consistent patient care Document and maintain accurate case records with full, objective, succinct, and appropriate medical record documentation, ensuring confidentiality Serve as a resource and share clinical expertise with staff, referring providers, and the community Identify, assess, and make recommendations regarding solutions to patient concerns, questions, issues, or problems, including ethical dilemmas; recognize personal limitations and seek assistance or referrals as needed Participate in quarterly Bariatric Management Committee meetings to gather input from clinical and support staff Assist in medical report preparation and maintain the practice database, ensuring compliance with BOLD (Bariatric Outcome Longitudinal Database) requirements Participate in special projects and maintain clinical guidelines and SOPs to meet Center of Excellence guidelines Develop and manage postoperative patient support group activities to ensure treatment guideline compliance Perform related work as required Practice and adhere to the Code of Conduct and Mission and Value Statements

EDUCATION:

Master’s degree in genetic counseling or related field

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 1 year experience in genetic counseling

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
