Job Description

The DSP ensures individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities receive continuous active treatment in accordance with their Individual Support Plans (ISPs). They are also responsible for carrying out structured behavior management programming for people with disabilities receiving residential and day program services. Additionally, a DSP will assure the well-being of program participants by assisting them in achieving personal goals, ensuring the environment is clean and free from safety hazards, and documenting any incidents that may arise. The DSP will also coordinate and assist program participants during community outings and special events.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Assist individuals with activities of daily living, goals, and other tasks.
• Monitor and manage medication administration for residents in accordance with DHS standards.
• Coordinate the implementation of the individuals goals and objectives as provided by the QIDP.
• Accurately track all behavior data in accordance with the individuals behavior plan.
• Ensure the safety of program participants.
• Intervene and redirect participants maladaptive behaviors.
• Plan, prepare, and attend community outings with individuals.
• Comply with training requirements as directed by applicable regulators within the designated timeline.
• Attend monthly house meetings and quarterly in-service trainings.
• Coordinate home visits and participants attendance at scheduled events.
• Ensure all activities in the residence are done with the individuals, including grocery shopping, house chores, and purchasing of personal items.
• Complete incident reports when necessary.
• Timely and properly complete all paperwork including communication logs, environment checklists, tracking sheets, drill documentation, and chronological reports.
• Adhere to Rule 50 for Office of Inspector General reporting.
• Maintain the interior and exterior of the residential facility clean, organized, and tidy, and encourage individuals to participate in home upkeep as appropriate according to their individual plans.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalency required.
• One to two years of prior experience with the Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD) population preferred.
• Fluent verbal and written English and Spanish communication preferred.
• Completion of a DSP certification training program preferred but not required (training may be provided).
• Passion and commitment to working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must pass a reading comprehension test and pre-employment background check screening requirements.
• Successful completion of First Aid/CPR certification required within four months of hire or current certification.
• Complete Medication Administration training courses within four months of hire.
• Current, valid Illinois drivers license and proof of insurance required.
• Reliable means of transportation required.
• Willing to work evenings, weekends, overnights, and overtime as needed.
• Flexibility and ability to work all shifts.
• May be required to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
• May be required to lift and transfer individuals when necessary.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE:

WAGE/SALARY RANGE:

• $20.00 $22.50 / hour
• Based on experience and education.

WORK LOCATION:

• Flexibility to travel to other worksites/work assignments required.

• 8 hour shift.
• 10 hour shift (overnight).
